    This video was so unbelievably well done. I’m hiking the GDT in 2024 and this video gets me even more excited. I don’t know how much you care about views but this type of content deserves so more much views compared to what’s out there. With that being said out of curiosity, why didn’t you hike F and G?

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail 3 місяці тому

      I really wanted to complete section F and G but I had to carry 9-10 days of food because there was no way of resupply between Jasper and Kakwa, there was a trail closure in 2022...it was a 275km + 75km walk to be the route 16, a total of 350km it was to much!

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail 3 місяці тому

      Thank you Moran! Bringing a drone gives you an unparalleled perspective but it's a burden to carry and you have to be careful if you are in a wilderness area because it is prohibited! It’s the DJI mini 3(small and lightweight) with the Fly more kit(2 extra battery including the case to carry it) I brought two 20 000mah batteries(Anker) one for the drone and the other one for everything else! They have now the DJI Mini 4 pro(not sure there’s a big video quality difference between them) Happy trails! 🤘🏻

      How many battery charges you get w the 20,000 mah battery bank? Are they fairly easy to fly? I see some have crash avoidance

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail 3 місяці тому

      @@rmoran113 If I remember correctly I was able to charge the drone battery pack(3 batteries) almost twice with a 20,000mah. It’s easy to control but you need to practice quite a bit before getting started. The mini 3 pro have some crash avoidance sensor but its not perfect, you need to be really focused when you fly it!

    • @rmoran113
      @rmoran113 3 місяці тому

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail 3 місяці тому

      @@rmoran113 This is a good idea for weight savings but sometimes I’ve drained one and had to take another one right away, I need to be sure I have more than one…it all depends on how much you’re gonna spend time flying it. Remote with screen is also a faster way to connect to the drone and save battery drainage of your cell, I can’t go back to the old remote without the screen.

Also it looked like you were using a "real" camera. I have a 13 pro and my video is no where as nice as this. Must be the Colorado lighting or were you using some filter in post processing? Heading to CT this summer and this really got me excited. I might even try video again. Ha! Thanks again for the work and sharing. ADD

    • @Ratatrail
      @Ratatrail 4 місяці тому

      Thank you ADD, I really appreciate it. Agreed the drone adds another dimension, a bird's eye view, it has become an addiction, of course where it is allowed. For the iphone it is practically always in auto mode, the only setting I’ve use is when you: touch and hold the focus area until you see AE/AF Lock, so the exposure and the focus stay the same. Didn’t use any filter or anything in post. You're right about the lightning, open space like the CT, PCT, AZT, CDT, it gives better image quality than filming in a green tunnel. I hope you will put together a video for us, it's a pleasure to share it and be able to relive the experience, always fun to have a little project when you come back from a long trail. Take care ADD and enjoy the CT.

      @@woodyshepherd6904 Thanks Woody! I saw several hikers in shorts, they had no problem with that, except for the sections with moderate bushwhacking. I wish you a great hike, it’s gonna be epic 🤟🏻

    Awesome video. I recognized a couple spots for sure. I camped at the bench you were laying on my last night on trail in 2021. Not on the bench, lol. 2021 I went from Waterton to Breck. I started the same day I flew in from Ohio on that first stretch. 2022 Breck to Twin Lakes, but I acclimated in Breck for 2 days before starting and had no issues with the altitude to Twin Lakes. This year I plan on starting at Twin Lakes and doing the Collegiate West. I hope its not too much for me. Is it much more difficult on Collegiate West than that second stretch I did from Breck to Twin Lakes? I still plan on getting there a few days early to acclimate. Have any thoughts or advice for me? Or anyone that reads this comment have any advice? Thanks

      The collegiate west section was not the most difficult, we remained high in elevation, my only advice is to start it when the weather is good, because it is very exposed….visually incredible you’re gonna love it! 🤠

      Thank you JBen, I appreciate it! If you could start from Silverton City to Durango you would have a more complete overview of the wonderful San Juan! If time is not a concern 🤠

      I hadn't seen it from that angle, thank you for taking the time to mention it. I used the iPhone Xs as well as a macro lens that I attached behind it when there were insects or flowers!

    I did two small sections of the trail while visiting Colorado last September, one was in Pike National Forest and the other was near Durango. I thought it was amazing and I’d definitely like to go back and complete more of it.

      Near durango was one of my favorite sections of the whole trail, I really wish that you’ll be able to hike other sections…Colorado has so much to offer.
